The project was completed successfully despite cold weather conditions. This 50m concrete pool, located in Forbes, required extensive repairs due to multiple cracks and cold joints. We faced challenges applying materials, especially during colder periods, but overcame them by carefully timing each step. This allowed us to complete the Forbes Olympic Pool Renovation efficiently while ensuring high-quality results.

Initially, we drained the pool and removed the hydrostatic valve. Once we prepared the pool surface, we identified and repaired several cracks and drummy areas. These cracks and cold joints needed immediate attention, as they posed a risk to the pool’s longevity. By focusing on precise timing, we applied essential materials at the most suitable times of the day, ensuring proper adhesion.

After the repairs, we began the resurfacing process. First, we applied a primer coat to create a strong base. Then, the team installed reinforcing material (fibreglass laminate) to ensure long-lasting durability. Despite the challenging weather, the Forbes Olympic Pool Renovation proceeded smoothly by focusing on a systematic approach.

Next, we applied the bulk resin coat over the fibreglass laminate to enhance structural integrity. We then added a filler coat (undercoat) and topped it off with a final topcoat. For safety, we applied a non-slip surface to the step treads, which enhanced the functionality and safety of the pool. Finally, we replaced the hydrostatic valve, marking the completion of the Forbes Olympic Pool Renovation.

Throughout the process, we maintained strict quality control. Although the weather required constant adjustment, our team worked diligently to complete the project within the three-month timeframe. Thanks to these efforts, the Forbes Olympic Pool Renovation delivered a beautiful, fully functional pool, ready for the community’s use.

About Project

Renovating a 50m Olympic-sized concrete pool in Forbes presented unique challenges due to cold weather, which impacted the application process. Materials had to be applied at specific times of the day to ensure proper adhesion and durability. Additionally, the pool suffered from multiple cracks and cold joints, necessitating extra attention to these areas to ensure a stable and smooth surface for the fibreglass interior. Despite these obstacles, the project was completed over the course of three months, resulting in a fully restored and functional Olympic pool ready for use.

For this resurfacing project, we followed the following process:

  1. Drain the Pool.
  2. Remove the hydrostatic valve.
  3. Remove damaged/"drummy" areas to existing surfaces (up to 2sqm).
  4. Prepare pool surface to accommodate new fibreglass interior.
  5. Cut out and treat rust.
  6. Apply a Primer Coat.
  7. Apply Reinforcing Material (Fibreglass Laminate).
  8. Apply Bulk Resin Coat over Fibreglass Laminate.
  9. Apply Filler Coat (undercoat).
  10. Apply Final Topcoat (colour of your choice).
  11. Apply a non-slip surface to step treads.
  12. Replace hydrostatic valve.
